The Story
In Loving Memory of Margaret Geraldine Keys
August 27, 1931 - July 30, 2020
Margaret Geraldine Keys, also known as Gerry, age 88, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on July 30, 2020.
Gerry was born August 27, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to Norman and Viola Henderson. She was one of eight children. Gerry and her family moved to Richmond, CA where they resided for many years. Growing up as one of the older siblings, she often helped her mother with her younger brothers and sisters. Years later, upon her mothers passing, she moved her father and 3 younger siblings in to help take care of the family.
Gerry was also an active member in her church where she sang in the choir. Gerry and her husband Melvin met at church and after a few years of friendship and dating, they were married in Cupertino in 1959. In the years following, Gerry worked in her husband’s insurance office. She was loved by everyone there. Her kind nature and loving spirit were infectious. After the birth of her two sons Melvin Jr. And Matthew, Gerry took on the role of mother and homemaker.
Gerry lived a full life and touched everyone she encountered. She was an adoring wife and incredible mother. She also had a great sense of humor and she loved big family gatherings and spending time with her loved ones. Gerry also loved God. Her love for God was present in the way she lived her life. Her servant heart and selfless nature were unfailing.
Gerry is survived by her husband Melvin, two sons Melvin Jr. and Matthew, seven grandchildren Brittany, Jaclyn, Austin, Madison, Camryn, Dylan and Evan, three great grandchildren Dante, Bailey and Caiden, brothers Richard and Harold and sister Ruth as well as many nieces and nephews. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble” (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4)
I knew this wonderful woman close to 20 years through church. Gerry was a godly woman who loved the Lord and knew the power of prayer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
